Business Visas

The long term business visa is a temporary visa issued for three years. It is aimed at people who want to establish and operate a business in New Zealand, but do not want to live here permanently. If you have a certain level of business experience and meet character, health, and English language requirements, you may be eligible for this category. After your business has been in operation for two years, you may be able to apply for residence under the Entrepreneur category.

To qualify for a long term business visa, you need to demonstrate that you have a satisfactory business plan which relates to your past or current business experience.  You may either start a new business, or purchase a minimum of 25% shares in an existing business. Having a good business plan will increase the chances of a successful application. You will also need to prove that you have enough investment capital, and enough money to support yourself and your family while you hold the visa.

Business visa applications are dealt with by the Business Migration Branch of Immigration New Zealand. If they approve your application, you will receive a work visa which allows you to run your business. Your spouse will also receive a work visa allowing them to work for any employer, and your children will receive student or visitor visas.
